Latest News - Final 2011 GTA Trainers' Championship Standings published

After an exhilarating twelve months incorporating over 4000 qualifying open races, several different leaders and tussles which added yet more spice to some of the best races of the year, the final chapter of the 2011 Trainers’ Championship reached its climax on Thursday 29th December.

Following the last open races of the year at Hove and Henlow Seamus Cahill edged into sixth place with 372 pts and will now join 2011 Champion elect Chris Allsopp, Mark Wallis, Charlie Lister, Nick Savva and Kelly Findlay at the Trainers’ Championship meeting in March next year.

The administration of the GTA Trainers’ Championship was taken over by GBGB in 2011 and latest standings have been updated regularly throughout the year and published on the GBGB website. GTA Chairman Norah McEllistrim said:

“It’s been a great battle, not just for first place but also for those final qualifying places and it has certainly kept everyone gripped. It’s been a really well organised competition. All of our kennelstaff and owners have been counting up our wins and getting involved, and even if we did finish 25th, this is something everyone in a kennel can get behind and get excited about.

The Trainers’ Championship meeting in March should be a really close run thing, every trainer involved has some very strong dogs in their kennel and I’d say there’s no one obvious winner at the moment which keeps it exciting for everyone.”

GBGB Chief Executive Barry Faulkner added:

“We are delighted to have been able to assist the GTA with the administration of the Trainers’ Championship this year. The feedback from trainers who have been able to view their progress on the GBGB website has been very positive and we have been extremely fortunate that the 2011 title race was as tight as it was, maintaining industry interest right up to the finish line. Our congratulations go to Chris Allsopp and his team on their hard earned success and we look forward to a similarly exciting competition in 2012.”

The race to become 2012 Champion Trainer will commence at Romford on Monday 2nd January with heats of the Category 3 Coral on TV Standard,  with one change to the rules/scoring system introduced in 2011. The GTA/GBGB have confirmed that for the  2012 competition, a second scoring category for minor races worth a minimum of £500 to the winner (to be worth 5 points) will replace the ‘Sky televised’ races category.

All other Trainers Championship point-scoring rules will remain the same as detailed here

The Trainers’ Championship will continue to be updated regularly and at least twice weekly throughout 2012 with the full table available by clicking here. Updates will be publicised via the GBGB’s Twitter feed (click here to follow GBGB on Twitter).
