Latest News - Over £2k raised at RGT Golf Day
On Wednesday 11th July, Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT) branch Greyhoundhomer held a fundraising golf day at the Stapleford Abbots Club in Essex. Over fifty supporters of the home finding charity turned out on an unusually sunny day to help raise vital funds for an organisation that has found over 1000 loving homes for greyhounds since opening in 2006.
Organised by branch Co-ordinator Pat Philpott with the help of GBGB’s Annie Poole and Duncan Gibson, teams of four included representations from the RGT head office, Romford and Crayford tracks, Ladbrokes and Burridge London alongside some of the country’s leading trainers, owners and kennel staff.
Eighteen holes of golf played at what can be politely described as varying in quality, due mainly to the inclusion of GBGB Senior Stipe Paul Illingworth, was followed by a two-course meal and raffle/auction back in the clubhouse. Individual winner on the day was trophy making supremo Mark Burridge who also captained the winning team.
Organiser Pat Philpott said: “We’ve been running the fundraiser for a few years now and it’s definitely building momentum. Nearly three times as many people turned out this year and I’m delighted to announce that over £2,000 was raised on the day. It was great to see Daren Johnson who has done so much for the RGT come along with Mark Wallis.”
Pat continued: “I’d like to thank everyone for coming along, to Mark Curell and Steve Fluin for making donations and to those who provided some great raffle prizes and auction lots. William Hill kindly donated four passes to Ladies Day at Kempton Racecourse and both Ladbrokes and Coral gave away restaurant meals with wine at Crayford and Romford. Finally, well done to runner-up Dave Mullins and outright winner Mark Burridge whose commitment to sponsor next year’s trophies is absolutely brilliant news!”
Other notable winners on the day were Duncan Gibson and Andy Chick for longest drives and Stuart Forsdyke, Chris Russell, Terry Saunders and Alan Brunton for nearest to the pin on the respective par threes.
